Sometimes postpartum mood changes aren’t exactly like people think. You might have:
- Increased anxiety
- Trouble sleeping
- Reluctance to tell anyone how you are feeling
- Fear of leave your home
- Crying over the littlest things

It is very common for anxiety to be the most noticeable and bothersome symptom women experience as a part of postpartum distress.
If you are experiencing thoughts or emotions that are concerning you, let your doctor know so that he or she can offer you resources that can help you. You can get in touch with us, or talk with another mental health professional about your concerns. We are happy to work with you – two of our counselors are trained to help with postpartum issues – or refer you to resources that fit your needs better than we can.
Our counselors can review and discuss the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) with you if you feel this would be helpful. It can give you an idea of how severe your distress level may be, and if you were to decide to work with that counselor, it gives her a sense of this as well.
